Stephen B. Rubin, J.S.C. (Retired) joined Sidebar Solutions in March 2025.

Judge Rubin was appointed to the New Jersey Superior Court in January 2002. He served in the Family Division from 2002-2006, the Civil Division from 2006-2008, and the Criminal Division from 2008-2015. He retired in January 2015. From 2015-2016 he was of counsel to the Rotolo Law Firm in Hunterdon County. In 2016 Judge Rubin returned to the bench for 8 years. He was assigned to the Civil, Family, and Criminal Divisions and presided over contested probate cases.

Judge Rubin has an extensive legal background spanning 55 years. He began his legal career as a law clerk to Hon. Thomas J. Beetel from 1969-1970 and then was engaged in the general practice of law in Flemington, NJ for the next 27 years. While in law practice he served in numerous part-time positions. He was first assistant Hunterdon County prosecutor, special deputy attorney general, and municipal prosecutor in the boroughs of Flemington and Alpha and the townships of Union and Raritan. He also served as the Raritan Township Board of Health attorney, Delaware Township attorney, and Planning Board attorney for the townships of Bloomsbury and Holland.

From 1975 to 1990 he was a partner in the law firm of Rubin & Deni in Flemington and then a solo practitioner until 1997.

In 1997 Judge Rubin was appointed as Hunterdon County prosecutor and served in that position until 2002.

Throughout his legal career he served on various professional committees. He was state president of the County Prosecutors Association of New Jersey, chairman of the Civil Practice Section of the Dispute Resolution Program, and state commissioner for the Child Life Protection Commission. Judge Rubin was also a member of the Parole Advisory Board for the State of New Jersey, New Jersey Supreme Court Family Law Practice Committee, Criminal Rules of Evidence Committee, Fee Arbitration Commission and Ethics Committee for District XIII, and New Jersey Municipal Prosecutors Association. He completed a mediation program at the New Jersey Law Center and served as an arbitrator in the court-annexed Arbitration Program for Vicinage XIII.

Judge Rubin received a B.A. in 1966 from Rutgers College and a J.D. degree from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1969. He is a member of the Hunterdon County Bar Association and New Jersey Bar Association.
